What is meant by the term "Strip"?

When you strip a GL document you in fact delete all GL-specific code; code that only GL understand.

Running code like that through The W3C MarkUp Validation Service the validator will process a lots of errors. However this doesn't mean that the code is not valid, it shows only that the code is not part of the HTML MarkUp.
You need to deal with this, because some customers run your site through some sort of validator and will tell you that the code is not valid and will demand an explanation.
To avoid problems with your customer, you can strip GL related code.

How to Strip GL specific code.

By default GL is not set to Strip the GL specific code, this you can change Site wide and application wide.By default you can set GL to "Strip" pages from all GL specific generated code from uploaded pages application wide.

Application wide:

Go to Menubar > GoLive > Preferences or short cut CTRL/CMD-K.
Select Site > Upload / Export.

And check, under "Cleanups", "Strip HTML Code for: Adobe GoLive Elements". Thus GL will strip pages each time you upload to the server in all you sites.

Site wide:

Go to Menubar > Site > Settings.

Or use the contextual option and choose Settings.

Select Upload / Export.
Check "Site Specific Settings".
Next check, under Cleanups, "Strip HTML Code for: Adobe GoLive Elements". Thus GL will strip pages each time you upload this specific site to the server.

Your Choice.

What your choice will be on how to reduce the volume of pages and the CSScriptLib.js, if at all, is up to you. It all depends on the situation, but in general the most commonly used is Option Three (Below). If you are a 'download-time-freak' and/or a 'validation-freak', you must of course choose Option four.

To illustrate, here is the same page in the four different states that GL can upload pages in.

The sample page holds two Actions.

Below "Options" links will toggle a table sideways for comparison of volume of the code.

If you do not care about the download time.

If you care about the download time, you have three options.

With the "Write code into page" option.

Without the Flatten Script Library option.

With the Flatten Script Library option

Usually not recommended.

Not recommended.

Recommended.

Most recommended.

Option one:

"Write code into page"

If you don't care about the download time for the visitor on your site, it's easy, just let GL write the code into each page. This choice will produce a large page - code/kb-wise.

Usually not recommended.

Advantage:
If you have a single page outside a Site window and no connection to a CSScriptLib.js file, this option is just fine to chose.
You can edit pages online.

Disadvantage:
The download time will be unnecessarily long.
And the pages will not validate at The W3C MarkUp Validation Service
Search Engines might not go deep enough and grab all your text and thereby index the page, if there is too many KB's.

Option two:

Without Flattening

The CSScriptLib.js is not set to "Flatten".
This will produce a huge CSSriptLib.js file, containing all of your Actions.
The volume depends on how many Actions you have in your Action folder.

Not recommended.

Advantage:
None. But the size of the page will be reduced.

Disadvantage:
The download time will be unnecessarily long, cause the browser will cache the CSSriptLib.js with a lot of 'junk-scripting' for which there is no use.
And the pages will not validate at The W3C MarkUp Validation Service
Search Engines might not go deep enough and crap all your coding and thereby index the page, if there is too many KB's.

Option three:

Without the "Strip" option

The CSScriptLib.js is set to "Flatten" and GL is not set to Strip all GL specific generated code from uploaded pages.
This will produce 25 lines in the page code - plus 81 lines in the CSScripLib.js file.

Recommended.

Advantage:
When first cached by the browser, the CSScriptLib.js file is 'reuseable' in all pages followed by the first downloaded page, thus reducing the download time for the rest of the pages.
You can edit pages online.

Disadvantage:
The size of the pages will not be reduced.
And the pages will not validate at The W3C MarkUp Validation Service
